One of the neat things about the new development model is that with a few small tweaks, we can take this newly migrated application and run it outside the Java EE container. The entities require no changes whatsoever, since they rely entirely on persistence services; and the JPA persistence manager is capable of being hosted either inside a Java EE container or in an ordinary Java SE environment. Container-injection services are not available when running outside the Java EE container, so we need to use an alternate means to obtain the EntityManager instance.
